According to Gartner, “The EU’s NIS 2 Directive expands in scope and requirements to achieve a higher level of cybersecurity control for critical infrastructure.” Expanding across 18 sectors such as banking, transport, energy and manufacturing, the latest directive scheduled to be effective in October 2024 imposes stringent cybersecurity measures based on business thresholds.
As per Gartner® report entitled Quick Answer: How to Effectively Prepare for NIS 2, one of the goals of NIS 2 is, “to encourage cooperation and information sharing among national authorities and between operators and service providers in order to enhance the overall cybersecurity of the EU”.
